Visual reality

Visual reality is our experiencing of the world through sight, sound, and tangible objects. This is our most dominant sense because it allows us to assess the situation in front of us and react accordingly.

Because this sense is relatively easy to create and manipulate, visual artists want to use it as a medium for their art. Visual artists range from painters like Jackson Pollock or Pablo Picasso being revered for their work with paint and canvas; sculptors like Pablo Bronstein making an impact on public spaces around the world through giant constructs; or film-makers like Alfred Hitchcock, who used cutting-edge effects such as stop-motion sequences to frighten audiences during his films.

Those that create artwork using other mediums have also managed to take advantage of visual reality such as music composers as Brian Eno and David Bowie who utilized the sounds of synth instruments in their work; or authors like William Gibson who used his knowledge of cyberpunk, a type of science fiction that relies heavily on technology, and imagined a future where people could augment their senses via technology to live in a cyberspace.

Benefits of VR

When people think about visual art, they often refer to paintings, sculptures and other visual objects held by museums: however, there are many ways for someone to create artwork using their own physical abilities or by joining something together along with materials that can become an object. This is the artistic process used by performance artists and musicians.

Disadvantages of VR

Performance art has been around since the 1950s and is still used today to shock people, make a political statement, or just to show blissful expression. This was shown in Yoko Ono's Yes Painting of 1979 where she had an audience members extend their arms outwards and then eventually release them, with their arms no longer controlled by themselves but rather by others.
